Terms

What Krosswalk is

Krosswalk gives you a web address, like krosswalk.me/yourname, that you share instead of your phone number. People can text you or call you there, and you decide who gets in.

Your handle

You can claim one free handle. Don't claim a name that pretends to be someone else, a business you don't run, or anything offensive. We can take a handle back if it's misused. Lawyer review: handle disputes and trademarks.

How you use it

Don't use Krosswalk to harass, threaten, spam, scam, or send anything illegal. Don't try to break it or get into anyone else's Krosswalk. If you do, we can close your Krosswalk. Lawyer review: acceptable use and termination.

Blocking and reporting

You can block anyone, and they won't be told. You can report a conversation; we'll look at the report and the last few messages in it.

No promises it always works

Krosswalk is new. Calls and texts can be late or missed, and it is not an emergency service. For emergencies, call 911. Lawyer review: warranty disclaimer and limits on liability.

Changes

If these terms change in a way that matters, we'll ask you to agree again. Lawyer review: notice of changes, governing law, age requirements.

Privacy

What we keep

For owners: your handle, the name, line, bio and photo you choose, your door color, and whether you're open. If you add one, your backup email. Face ID stays on your phone; we only keep the public half of the key it makes. For visitors: the first name you give and the messages you send, tied to a random ID in your browser. We don't ask anyone for a phone number.

What we use it for

Only to run Krosswalk: to show your door, pass messages, ring your phone, and let you back in. We don't sell it and we don't use it for ads. Lawyer review: legal basis, sale and sharing statements.

Who helps us run it

Netlify hosts it and stores the data. Notifications go through your phone's own push service (Apple, Google or Mozilla), and through Pushover or ntfy for some owners. Backup emails are sent with Resend. Lawyer review: list of processors and where data is stored.

How long we keep it

Conversations stay until the owner deletes them or their Krosswalk closes. Records of calls are cleared within a day. Reports are kept while we look into them. Lawyer review: retention periods and deletion requests.

Your choices

You can change your door any time, sign out every device, and remove your photo. To close your Krosswalk and delete your data, contact us. Lawyer review: contact address, access and deletion rights (CCPA/GDPR), children's privacy.
